“White-glove delivery” is a phrase that gets used often and explained rarely. It sounds like it should cost more, and it is not always clear what you get for it. So here is the plain answer, along with where in South Africa we actually deliver.
What happens on the day
A white-glove delivery is the whole job rather than the drop-off. When a piece leaves our atelier:
- We transport it ourselves, rather than handing it to a general courier.
- We carry it into the house — not to the gate, not to the driveway.
- We take it through to the room it is meant to live in.
- We assemble it there, if it needs assembling.
- We position it exactly where you want it to stand.
- We collect every piece of packaging and take it away with us.
You are not left with a boxed couch in the hallway, a bed frame in pieces, or a stack of cardboard to get rid of on a Sunday afternoon.
Why it matters more with furniture
Most things you order online fit through a door and weigh less than you do. Furniture does not. A three-seater couch has to clear a doorway, a stairwell and at least one corner before it reaches the room, and an assembled bed base will not go up a narrow staircase at all. That is the part a general courier is not set up for — their job ends when the item reaches the address.
It also matters because of what the piece is. Everything we make is built to order in our own atelier, by our own craftsmen. A piece that has had weeks of work in it should not spend its first hour on site being dragged across a floor by somebody who has never seen it before.
Where we deliver
Gauteng. Johannesburg, Pretoria, Sandton and the surrounding areas. This is where most of our deliveries go, and it is white-glove throughout.
Cape Town and Durban. We run dedicated routes to both, twice a month — mid-month and month-end. Coastal orders are timed to the next available run, which is why a Cape Town lead time is tied to the route as much as to how quickly the piece is finished. White-glove service is included.
Everywhere else in South Africa. Arranged on request through our logistics partners. Phone us and we will tell you honestly what is possible for your area, and when.
What it costs
Delivery is quoted per order rather than charged at a flat rate.
The honest reason is that a flat rate would be wrong in both directions. A bedside pedestal going to Rosebank and a ten-seater dining suite going to Polokwane are not the same job, and pricing them identically means somebody is being overcharged. We would rather quote the actual job.
What we do not do
We do not offer same-day or next-day delivery, and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
Nothing we sell sits in a warehouse. Every piece is built to order once you have settled the dimensions, the timber, the fabric and the finish, whether that is a bed, a wood unit or a full lounge suite. That takes time, and the lead time is confirmed with you when you order rather than guessed at upfront.
If you need furniture tomorrow, we are the wrong workshop. If you want a piece that is still solid in ten years, the wait is part of the reason it will be.
Paying it off
Delivery terms and payment terms are separate questions, and people often ask both at once. Orders can be spread interest-free through PayJustNow, PayFlex, Float or PayFast, in South African Rand. You choose at checkout, and approval sits with the provider rather than with us.
Booking a delivery
Delivery is arranged when the order is placed, not as an afterthought at the end. If you are working to a date — a move, a renovation finishing, a room that needs to be usable by a particular weekend — say so upfront and we will tell you whether it is possible rather than finding out late.
